Report Print - Crop Text To Column Width
When a report has a long text column - for example a long item name or address - the printed report or PDF can become much wider than the page, so the columns on the right (amounts, balance, days) are cut off. The Crop Text To Column Width? print option keeps every column at the width you have set for it on screen, so the whole report fits on the page.
Where to find it
Open any report or list, click Export / Print and look under Print to Printer / PDF. The option sits just below Word Break?.
How to use it
- On the report screen, drag the column borders so that each column has the width you want on paper (for example, make the Item column narrower).
- Click Export / Print.
- Tick Crop Text To Column Width?.
- Click Print. Choose your printer, or Save as PDF, as usual.
- A long text is now cut at the column width and ends with ..., and all the other columns stay on the page. Numbers and dates are never cut.
Notes
- Your choice is remembered on this computer and browser for the next print. Untick the option to print the full text again.
- To see the full text on paper instead of cutting it, untick this option and tick Word Break? so long text wraps onto the next line.
- If a value is cut more than you like, widen that column on screen and print again.
- The option only affects Print and PDF. Export to Excel always gives the full text.
