Area / City Name Change from Madras to Chennai¶
If you're looking to update the city name 'Madras' to 'Chennai' across your instance of Merciglobal Cloud ERP, please follow the guidelines below. This process involves both master data updates and careful handling of print formats or fixed text fields.
Important Note¶
It is not possible to perform a system-wide "search and replace" for the term Madras, as it may lead to inconsistencies or break certain configurations.
Areas Where Changes Can Be Made Manually¶
In most cases, you can update the city name directly in relevant master data modules:
Editable Masters¶

Print Format Adjustments¶
Some forms and documents (e.g. Purchase Orders, Sales Invoices, Delivery Notes) may contain hardcoded references to the old city name. These are not always linked to master data and must be manually updated.
What to Do:¶
- Review any custom Print Formats.
- For fixed text changes, raise a support ticket.
- Mention the exact form name and where the city name appears.

- Go to: Support > Raise Ticket
- Subject: Change City Name from Madras to Chennai in PO Print Format
- Attach a screenshot if possible for better clarity.
Why Manual Handling is Required¶
- Data Integrity: Some documents refer to historic transactions.
- Compliance: Regulatory reports may require preserving old names for legacy data.
- Customization: Print formats often include hardcoded values or Jinja/JS conditions.
